Crewe has some of the more affordable rents in Cheshire, reflecting its history as a railway and manufacturing town. Terraced housing dominates much of the older part of town, with semi-detached and detached properties on the newer estates that have grown up around the edges, particularly toward Shavington and Wistaston.
Cheshire East Council has no selective licensing scheme currently. A shared home let to five or more people from more than one household still needs a mandatory HMO licence. A landlord buying in Crewe should weigh the sale price against the achievable rent before the yield is meaningful.
